United Methodist Women nurture and encourage one another in their spiritual growth, personal leadership and transformation. They are a community of women whose purpose is:

• To know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ.
• To develop a creative supportive fellowship.
• To expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

Our Byron group meets regularly (check the Events & News) and sponsors not only dinners, retreats, and our much anticipated “Bloom Where You are Planted” luncheon for Mother’s Day, all of which offer fellowship and fun close to home, but their support stretches from local charities to worldwide disaster relief efforts through the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Shepherd’s Gate is a local non-profit that provides a safe haven for women and their children who are homeless because of abusive relationships, addictions, loss of financial support and other factors. Our United Methodist Women regularly collect supplies for the home in Brentwood.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is is a ministry of The United Methodist Church, whose goal is to assist the most vulnerable persons affected by crisis or chronic need. UMCOR is a non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. UMCOR’s work reaches people in more than 80 countries, including the United States. We provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own. Our United Methodist Women have an ongoing project of collecting items for UMCOR’s relief supply kits that provide care for the most vulnerable people during times of crisis and help sustain everyday life for people who lack ready access to essential supplies.

Every year, the national Women’s Division recommends a diverse range of books to broaden exposure to a variety of concepts.
